The term "Gestaltung" has experienced a meaningful semantical change in the 1920s.
Since then form is no longer an expression of style, poetic parable, or aesthetic symbol, it is an essential expression of the character of the object itself.
This character is the essence in the design of a new living environment. By emphasising the term "Gestaltung", the design is liberated from perception-level.
The science of design ("Designwissenschaft") is no longer part of the design theory or practice but has an independent position within the sciences.
